The group started as a merry-go round group in 1998 by 5 women when one neighbor lost her baby and women had problems hosting the guests e.g. feeding and accommodation.

OBJECTIVES

  1. Giving one another moral support at times of misfortune and other calamities.
  2. Giving financial support at times of need e.g. burials and during hospitalization and notable school fees problems.
  3. Assisting one another in equipping their homes with household goods e.g. mattresses, blanket and utensils.
  4. Merry-go round i.e. contributing small amounts of money that is balloted for and the lucky one goes home richer until all the members get that opportunity.

LONG TERM OBJECTIVES

  1. Buying domestic animals e.g. sheep, cows and layers hen.
  2. Water reservoirs (tank)
  3. Purchasing of canvas for roofing dais during social functions.

ACTIVITIES

  1. We have managed to buy large pans each to assist us during functions 11 in number.
  2. We have bought beddings for all the eleven members, 2” mattresses, blankets and bed sheets.
  3. The group also targeted household utensils i.e. cups, plates, pans etc.
  4. We have also made our Christian celebrations more meaningful by giving each member some money to host their families.
  5. Give seed especially maize in October for planting.

In order to get money for the last two items above each member contributes kshs 10 every Sunday.

Early last year (2006) the members who now total 25 met and decided to convert their group into a micro-lending group. They started by contribution kshs 200 each for stationeries and starting capital.

Late last year the group got a financial boost of kshs 50,000 from the Burning Bush INC.

Members met and agreed to fulfill their dream of buying a sheep for each member with the aim that the animals will reproduce and increase in number after a short time. This will enable members to get money when in need since they are more marketable and sell easily than cows. The amount used to purchase the sheep was Kshs 30000 while kshs 20000 was pumped to cash loans.

In a span of 6 months, we have a revolving capital of Kshs 78,570.

CONCLUSION

The group has changed the livelihood of the members. They are able to borrow money for school fees and other uses at very low interest rates.

Members are optimistic that the group will grow and help members to achieve greater heights.

We sincerely express our thanks and love to Burning Bush INC for coming in to assist Kenyan women in the rural area.

We hope that one day you will find time to come, meet the members, and see what they do.<
