Construction Begins on WAKA Continuing Education Center
Posted on Aug 30, 2009
Construction began the week of August 10 on the WAKA Continuing Education Center in Nyeri. Although slightly behind schedule, the center is expected to be completed in early 2010. Burning Bush is funding the construction of this facility and will underwrite its operating expenses for three years.
The WAKA Continuing Education Center will address a critical need for continuing education for private nurse practitioners in Central Kenya. These nurses, who own their own clinics and are engaged in “advanced practice” nursing, provide about 42 percent of basic health services in the region. The center will also serve as a conduit for equipment and supplies for the nurses, once it is operational and certified by the Kenyan government.
