Duplex Nears Completion
Posted on Jun 24, 2007
Big News! The clinic’s new duplex is almost finished and ready for occupancy. One side of the duplex will be occupied by Agnes, the second nurse working in the clinic, who has one child still at home and one in secondary boarding school. For patient care and clinic coverage, it’s necessary for Agnes to live on the compound, if the clinic is to be open 24hrs/day. Babies are not always born during regular clinic hours, so the nurse must be available at all times of the day and night. The nurses treat an average of forty patients each day, so commuting a long distance would take away from patient care hours. In addition, if the second nurse is not living within the compound walls and must travel to the clinic in the middle of the night, she risks being trampled by elephants or accosted by a male attacker. It’s also not wise for her to leave her children unattended in her own home. Agnes returns from vacation next week and plans to move in to her new home before the end of the month.
The other side of the duplex will serve as quarters for guests, a lab technician or possibly a third nurse.
