Tiny New Blessing ! But she's already shouting "Halleluiah" to all those around her ! Proud parents are Joy Grace and Tony Muthoni and proud grandmother is Rosemary Kamunya. Birth weight was 1.7 kg, but now gaining weight. She and her parents are bonding through Kangaroo Mother Care which is when Kiya is swaddled in place on her mothers chest.

WAKA Hosts One Day Continuing Ed Session
WAKA CMEC was selected by the Global Health Media Project as a site to evaluate the effectiveness of 10 videos on Care of the Newborn Baby. Rosemary conducted a one day session with over 25 midwives from both the public and private nurse facilities. The nurses received continuing education credits for attending. It was felt that the videos were a needed timely as the last update was about 8 years ago and many changes have occurred. This knowledge will contribute to better care of the new born baby. It also was an opportunity to strengthen the private/ public sector of nursing in this part of Central Kenya.

MASTER LEWIS NGURE MAINA
A letter from Esther Maina about the health of her son Lewis, five years after heart surgery. Lewis was born on 14.11.1998 with a body weight of 3.6 kgs. He had slow physical growth, poor feeder hence small in size and feather weight. He had a fast heart beat. He was diagnosed PDA in April 2006. Advised to seek specialized treatment at Nbi which God sent Dr. Rick assisted greatly. At Mater Hospital Lewis was found to have retarded growth, height 115 cm expected 132 cm, weight 20.5, expected 23kgs. Closed heart surgery was done on 23rd August 2006 a certain gadget was inserted. After six months of observation he was given a clean bill of health. He has normalized, grown remarkably, intellectually super. He is doing his national primary school exam in November. His dream is to become a cardiologist to help children like he was. THANKS to his role model Dr. Rick.
